Where Can Indian Students Get a UK Master’s Offer Fast Enough to Make the January Intake?

If you want to start a UK Master’s in January 2027, you have weeks, not months. Here are the universities that publish January deadlines and decision times, and what to do after the offer.

The short answer

  • A January 2027 start is still possible at many UK universities, but the window is short. The international application deadlines we found run from 11 November (University of the West of Scotland) to 4 December 2026 (Bangor).
  • The fastest published decision times: Coventry aims to give an initial decision within one week, and Swansea and Cardiff Met within 5 working days once your documents are complete.
  • An offer is only step one. You still need to meet conditions, pay a deposit, get your CAS and apply for the visa. UKVI's usual decision time from outside the UK is 3 weeks.
  • Most January starters will apply for the visa on or after 30 November 2026, when the money you must show rises to £1,570 a month in London and £1,203 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months.
  • Already closed: Liverpool John Moores (deadline 30 October) and Salford's full-time January 2027 courses.

It is the last day of October. If you want to start a UK Master's in January 2027, you have about four to six weeks to apply, get an offer, pay a deposit and receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), and then a few more weeks for the visa. That is tight, but it is doable at the right universities.

Below we list universities that publish their January 2027 deadlines for international students, and what each one says about how quickly it makes decisions. We took every date from the university's own website and checked it in October 2026. Deadlines can change at short notice, so confirm on the linked page before you apply.

Why the January window is so short

Think of a January start as a chain of steps, each with its own wait. The two you control are how fast you apply and how complete your application is.

  1. Apply with every document readyTranscripts, degree certificate (or provisional certificate), English test result, passport, statement of purpose and CV. Missing papers are the most common reason a decision clock never starts.
  2. Get a decision, then meet the conditionsPublished decision times range from 5 working days to about 4 weeks (see the table below). A conditional offer becomes unconditional only when you send what it asks for.
  3. Pay the deposit and request your CASUniversities set their own deposit and CAS deadlines, usually in early to mid December for January.
  4. Apply for the Student visaYou can apply up to 6 months before your course starts. From outside the UK the usual decision time is 3 weeks. As an applicant from India you also need a TB test certificate.
  5. TravelFor a course longer than 6 months you can arrive up to 1 month before it starts, but not before the start date on your visa.

Which courses start in January?

January lists lean towards business, management, computing, data science and engineering. A few examples from the universities above:

  • Coventry lists January 2027 among several start dates on courses such as MSc Business Analytics.
  • Cardiff Met lists MBAs, management, finance, marketing and hospitality courses, plus technology MSc courses including data science and AI.
  • Bangor's January list covers accounting and finance, business and marketing, computer science, AI and data science, electronic engineering, public health, law and more.
  • Heriot-Watt offers January 2027 entry across 18 subject areas, and Northumbria runs January starts in business, computing and data science, engineering, public health and psychology.
Check the course lengthSome January courses run longer than 12 months. Teesside University's MSc Data Science, for example, takes 16 months from a January start, including a summer break. A longer course changes your visa length, your health surcharge and your living costs.

If your IELTS score is 6.0, read our list of UK data science Master's that accept IELTS 6.0; several of them start in January. You can also search UK postgraduate programs or browse data science and business courses.

How to get a fast decision

  • Apply only when your file is complete. Swansea's 5-day target, for example, starts once all supporting documents are in.
  • Apply to two or three universities at once, with different deadlines, rather than waiting for one answer before trying the next.
  • Answer emails the same day. Northumbria says it may withdraw an application if you don't respond to an offer in time, and may change deadlines at short notice.
  • Have your statement of purpose ready before you start. Our guide to writing an SOP admissions teams actually read includes a worked example.
  • Line up the money early. Deposits and the visa funds check both need cash in the bank, which takes time if it comes from an education loan.

After the offer: deposit, CAS and visa

Deposits vary a lot. UWS normally asks for at least 75% of the net tuition fee before it issues a CAS. Coventry and Swansea ask applicants from Punjab for the full first-year fee, and Coventry asks the same of applicants from Haryana and Uttarakhand. Ask your university what applies to you as soon as you have an offer.

For the visa itself, these are the figures on GOV.UK as of October 2026. Rupee amounts use ₹127.60 = £1, the FBIL reference rate published by the RBI on 30 October 2026.

ItemAmountIn rupees
Student visa fee, applying from outside the UK£558≈ ₹71,200
Immigration Health Surcharge, visa longer than a year and up to 18 months£776 a year plus half a year£1,164≈ ₹1.49 lakh
Living costs to show, outside London (applications from 30 Nov 2026)£1,203 a month × 9 months£10,827≈ ₹13.8 lakh
Living costs to show, London (applications from 30 Nov 2026)£1,570 a month × 9 months£14,130≈ ₹18.0 lakh

On top of the living costs, you must show any course fees still unpaid for the first year, as stated on your CAS. The money must sit in the account for at least 28 days in a row, and the end of that 28-day period must be within 31 days of your visa application. If you apply before 30 November 2026, the old amounts (£1,529 and £1,171 a month) apply, but most January applicants will be applying in December.

Plan the 28 days backwardsIf you expect to apply for your visa around 10 December, the full amount needs to be in your account by mid-November at the latest and stay there. Parents moving money from several accounts should do it now, not after the CAS arrives. Our forex and banking guide covers how to move it.

The Graduate visa is shorter for January starters

The Graduate visa lets you stay and work after your degree. It lasts 2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027. Anyone starting a Master's in January 2027 will finish in 2028, so plan on 18 months, not two years. You have to apply before your Student visa expires.

Unless you are a government-sponsored student, you also cannot bring dependants on a taught Master's. For postgraduate courses starting on or after 1 January 2024, only PhD and other research degree students can.

If January is too tight

If your documents or funds won't be ready in time, don't rush a weak application. Some universities run later starts: Coventry also lists March, May and July 2027 starts on some courses, and Teesside offers May starts on its MSc Data Science. September 2027 opens up far more choice. Read what a UK Master's really costs before you decide, and see our UK study guide for the bigger picture.
